Swings and misses, Titans move to 18 points and ensure a place in the top-2. Fireworks go off in the background. It was a fullish legbreak that landed around off and spun big to beat the attempted heave over midwicket
GT vs SRH, 62nd Match at Ahmedabad, IPL, May 15 2023 - Match Result
Titans make the playoffs again, they continue to dominate the league. They look to be enjoying their game and, similarly, we hope you enjoyed our coverage too. I'm Ekanth, signing off on behalf of my report-writing co-commentator Srinidhi, and our scorers, Venkat Raghav and Thilak Rama.
Harish: "FYI: Abhishek and Gill where childhood friends and playing for Punjab in domestic."
Shubman Gill, POTM: My IPL debut was against SRH, now I've my IPL hundred against them. Quite pleased. It's come a full circle. Hopefully I'll get more hundreds this season. I'm not the kind of person who dwells too much about my last innings. The focus is on what's need at the moment. The most satisfying moment was to hit Abhishek for a six because he is my childhood friend.
Hardik Pandya, GT Captain: Very proud of the boys. Two in two. Last year was different, we knew there'd be a lot of challenges this year. Boys have put their hands up in different situations. I think we've rightly earned the chance of making the playoffs. I spoke about where we stand and that there will be high expectations but we focus within the group. We tick a lot of good boxes, we made errors in our journeys but were very consistent. Even when we lose, we were in the game and made some mistakes. People were focusing on the right thing, that's why we're here. For me, bowlers are very close to my heart. I sometimes feel batters take a lot of credit. A couple of overs are always important. I'm a bowler's captain and will ensure they're well prepared and always get credit.
Mohammed Shami: I've been focusing on hitting the ball into the pitch, bowl to my strengths and on good lines. (On powerplay bowling) I've been trying to hit similar lines and make use of the new ball. That's always given me success. The wicket was the same as that in the last game. Mohit coming in has helped go well in the middle overs, given we have Rashid and Noor as well. (On what he's been eating) I'm in Gujarat, so will not get what I want (non-veg food), isn't it? (laughs)
Abhilash: "Every wicket today was a catch out just sparing that Noor's run out"
Third four-plus wickets haul today (Bhuvi Shami Mohit), the most in an IPL match. Only five T20 matches before had three or more 4-plus wicket hauls.
Stats from Sampath: Gujarat's 91 runs in their previous game vs MI were the most runs by a team after the fall of seventh wicket in an IPL game. Sunrisers bettered that scoring 95 runs today.
Mustafa Moudi : "Fun Fact: When these 2 sides faced each other for the first time in 2022, Rashid got dismissed on a Golden Duck with the Bat and conceded 28 Runs with the Ball. Same happeed tonight too !!"
Aiden Markram, SRH captain: Still believed at half-time that we were in with a chance but with four wickets in the powerplay, we went down. We have high-class bowlers and we thought the ball would swing for a while but it didn't. Gill did well. Credit to Bhuvi for bringing it back. Klaasen is a great player with class, power and a good cricketing brain. Unfortunately, the rest of the group did not support him. Lots of pride still left in the upcoming games. Maybe we'll give out a few opportunities and guys can finish well but sadly we haven't been good. Bhuvi showed us the way and Nattu was good as well.
11:23pm: A comfortable win for Titans. An expected cruise, Gill's slowdown while closing in on the hundred does not matter. Shami retained his new-ball magic. Mohit got a four-for. All is good in their camp. Sunrisers did well to go from 59 for 7 to 154 but that, led by Klaasen's solid fifty, is as good as it got for them. The game did drag on for close to four hours again but the game was on for only a few minutes as Sunrisers' batting crumbled.
Makes room and drives the full ball to long-on
Rashid reaches the ball at deep square leg, there's a fielder coming in from the other side - Mavi running in from the right, and Rashid overruns it and the ball bursts out of his hands and goes to the boundary
Leading edge off the back-foot flick takes the length ball to short third
Looped up at 83kph, Farooqi's eyes lit up, he wound up and swiped to go over midwicket. Missed it by quite a distance
Dances down and gets to the pitch, driven down to long-on
Tewatia for the final over
Length ouside off, blocked to cover point
Bouncer at 132kph delivered with another grunt, which has been a constant feature in Mohit's bowling. Farooqi flicked his head towards the off side in reflex
Rashid runs in from deep point and takes the catch, Mohit has four. It was a wobbling length ball on fourth stump, Bhuvi made room and tried to flay it over cover. It may have been a bit too short for the shot. It went off the flashing outside edge, Rashid covered quite a few metres, decelerated close to the finish and took it comfortably.
Yorker on middle and off at 141kph, Markande was standing just outside leg and whipped it along the ground to long-on
Nirmal : "Nice inspired comeback of Yash Dayal.. in last match, his 1 over cost 31 runs, and at here his 4 overs cost same.."
Slapped down the ground again. This was a slower back-of-hand ball that was short and curving away. Not far from the off-side tramline and that allowed Markande to swat it
Heaved away over long-on. It was a 135kph skiddy back-of-length ball just outside off, Markande pulled it 76 metres far
Darshin: "Two more overs to go, Can Bhuvi get to 50?"
Deep: "Bhuvi gets his highest T20 score, along with a 5 wicket haul"
Top edge off the pull with limited power lands safely at square leg as no one was in the circle. Ball was just outside off and hit from around chest-height
Back-of-length ball pitches around off and angles away at 132kph, beats the attempted punch to cover off the back foot
Back of length around off, guided to deep third
Ramesh Mukka: "@Haasmi: 8 different batsmen too :P"
Pitched up with a bit off room offered. Bhuvi's able to slap it over cover off the front foot
Bouncer is too high but Bhuvi tries to upper cut it in the last second but it goes over fourth stump to the keeper
Haroon: "The worms look like Virar to Churchgate slow and fast Local trains. Just saying!"
Full and slow on fourth stump, Bhuvi makes some room and tries to lash it over cover. Gets it just over the infield after half-timing it
Swings and misses. Tried to go over mid-off there
Dead ball as the towel falls from the back of Dayal's trouser
Saftar Haasmi: "Eight wickets and Eight different catchers !!!"
No, full on off, Markande's behind it and blocks it towards cover.
Five for?
